Door Staff - Axe Bar & Grill

Employment Opportunity

TERM: September 1 2020 - April 30 2021
(Occasional summer work available)

RATE OF PAY: $12.55 per hour plus Vacation Pay

DUTIES: Serving drinks and food at the Axe Lounge or at Students’ Centre events. Also responsible for stock, cash, and cleaning of the bar.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session before the start of the academic year plus periodic training seminars throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: Previous waiting or bar experience would be an asset. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy. Responsible Serve or Serve Right certification is required before start. Food handling certification is considered an asset.

HOURS: Must be available to work a combination of days, evenings and weekends, Shifts are scheduled depending on school and workload. Expect to work a minimum of two shifts per week.

THIS IS AN ACADIA STUDENTS' UNION EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

DOOR STAFF

1. General Responsibility

While on duty, the position of Door Staff works to ensure that the Axe Bar and Grill and Students’ Centre bar events provide an enjoyable and safe environment for patrons. Door Staff report to the Door Staff Supervisor, assistant managers, and Bar Services Manager.

2. Specific Duties

  • to check ID's and sign in patrons, refusing admittance to those who may be banned, not 19 years of age, lacking proper ID, over intoxicated, or in violation of the ASU’s Event Admission and Door Policy;
  • to handle problems in a friendly and courteous manner;
  • to remove patrons who are over intoxicated or causing a problem;
  • to coordinate with Safety and Security on walk home, medical emergencies, and other problems;
  • to help complete the bar and bar areas cleaning lists at the end of the night;
  • to help with the setup/teardown of Bar Services Events;
  • to report any problems to the Manager or designate.

3. Miscellaneous

  • to be familiar with ASU and NS Liquor Regulations;
  • to help promote the Axe Bar and Grill and Students’ Centre events;
  • to be familiar with ASU personnel and procedures;
  • the Door Staff may, from time to time, be assigned duties other than those listed above.
Wait Staff - Axe Bar & Grill

Employment Opportunity

TERM: September 1 2020 - April 30 2021

DUTIES: Checking IDs at the door of the Axe Bar and Grill or Students’ Centre events; responsible for crowd control, cleaning of the bar, and enforcement of Nova Scotia Liquor Control Act and ASU door policies.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session before the start of the academic year plus periodic training seminars throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: Previous door staff experience is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in fast-paced environment. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy. Certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention is considered an asset.

HOURS: Shifts are scheduled depending on school and workload. Expect approximately 5-15 hours per week.

DOOR STAFF

1. General Responsibility

While on duty, the position of Wait Staff works to ensure the competent and friendly service of food and/or drinks to patrons of the Axe Lounge and Students’ Centre bar events. Wait Staff report to the Manager.

2. Specific Duties

  • to provide table service for food and drinks during set operational hours;
  • to maintain proper inventory counts for bar set ups;
  • to maintain the float and complete nightly deposits with the Building Manager;
  • to ID and eject over intoxicated patrons in the absence of Door Staff;
  • to ensure all equipment is working;
  • to ensure cleaning lists for the Wait Staff areas are completed daily;
  • to promote specials and promotions;
  • to clean Wait Staff area at the end of night;
  • to follow any health and safety regulations related to Covid-19, including enhance cleaning and sanitization practices;
  • to complete nightly reports for the Manager in the absence of an Assistant Manager;
  • to report any problems to the Manager or designate.

3. Miscellaneous

Food Production Staff - Axe Bar & Grill, Perkins

DUTIES: Duties include all aspects of food production as it pertains to the flow of food through the kitchen. You will also be involved in the procurement of food supplies and the maintaining of a clean and safe work environment.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session before the start of the academic year plus periodic training seminars throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: Previous food production experience is considered an asset. Must be kitchen savvy and feel at home in a kitchen environment. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in fast-paced environment. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy.

FOOD PRODUCTION STAFF (Axe Bar & Grill / Perkins)

1. General Responsibility

Food Production staff will work to ensure the highest possible quality produced in a timely fashion for all Axe / Perkins Kitchen offerings keeping in mind product freshness, food safety, innovation, portion control ,and waste. They are responsible for the “flow of food” through the Kitchen which includes the grill line, sandwich prep area, pizza oven, and all other kitchen workstations. The Food Production staff reports to Food & Beverage Manager.

2. Specific Duties

  • to service customer orders including daily specials along with regular menu items following the specific guidelines for portion and quality control;
  • to perform the prep for all daily specials along with regular menu items;
  • keep kitchen, fridges, freezers, and store room areas clean and orderly;
  • to follow established food safety regulations and report any problems directly to the Manager;
  • to be able to operate and clean the dishwasher and all other equipment;
  • to interact with other staff in a professional manner that will promote and enhance the offered services;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Food & Beverage Manager(Axe Bar and Grill Manager);
  • to follow any health and safety regulations related to Covid-19, including enhance cleaning and sanitization practices.
Sales Associate - Cajun's

RATE OF PAY: $12.55 per hour plus Vacation Pay

DUTIES: Working as the attendant for the Cajun’s Clothing during scheduled shifts; duties include, but are not limited to, retail sales, adhering to store opening and closing procedures, initiating and completing assigned tasks; handling cash and making deposits, merchandising, stocking, pricing, promoting store and store merchandise to customers, and participating in complete inventory counts twice per year. Refer to position description for details.

TRAINING: Consists of mandatory job orientation at commencement of the work term plus periodic training seminars and mandatory staff meetings throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: THIS IS A STUDENT STAFFED POSITION. Strong customer service, organizational, time management, and communication skills; ability to respond creatively to pressure; unique promotional skills. Previous retail sales experience is considered an asset. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy.

HOURS: Part Time during academic year. Hours are scheduled. Expect approximately 5-15 hours per week.

1. General Responsibility

While on duty work to ensure the efficient functioning of Cajun’s clothing store. The Sales Associate reports to the Cajun’s Manager.

2. Specific Duties

  • to open or close Cajun’s when assigned and service customers, including, but not limited to: sale of clothing, giftware, Grad Rings, and the accurate dissemination of information;
  • to interact with customers of Cajun’s to promote its services and measure customer satisfaction;
  • to handle cash and prepare deposits in a responsible manner;
  • to ensure that Cajun’s is kept clean and orderly, including, but not limited to: vacuuming, dusting, steaming, sweeping, mopping, emptying garbage, and recycling;
  • to record phone messages properly on a regular basis;
  • to report any operational inefficiencies to the Manager;
  • receive and price merchandise;
  • stock shelves and create merchandise displays;
  • straighten, stock, and resize shelves and displays;
  • maintain the stock room in a clean and organized manner, including regularly re-stocking the store with stock room inventory
  • advise the Manager of operational and stationary supply needs within the store.

(I) Union Market

(II) Report

The Union Market Sales Attendant must report on the activities which occurred during a shift. This report should include:

  • an evaluation of the shit;
  • completed assigned work tasks;
  • questions, inquiries, requests, etc;
  • a summary of any problems, which may have occurred, and the steps taken to resolve the situation.
