Deputy Chief Returning Officer

Eligibility & Expectations

The SRC shall appoint a Deputy Chief Returning Officer no later than August 1 to serve a fixed term commencing on August 1 and continuing until the end of the following academic year.

The Deputy CRO shall be an active member of the ASU and shall possess a sessional GPA of at least 2.0 at the time of the appointment.

An active member shall not be eligible to serve as the Deputy CRO if they are:

  • a. A current ASU elected or appointed official;
  • b. A candidate or official agent in a Union Election;
  • c. Employed by the ASU in any other position.

The Deputy CRO shall not be eligible to be nominated in any Union Election during their term of office and, for greater certainty, the Deputy CRO remains ineligible to be nominated in any Union Election during their term of office from August 1 to the end of the following academic year even if they resign their position or are removed from office by the SRC.

The Deputy CRO shall be governed by the Council Code of Conduct as if they were a SRC official.

The Deputy CRO shall be responsible for the conduct of the Union Election in accordance with the Bylaws of the ASU.

The Deputy CRO shall discharge their duties in a fair and impartial manner

Role & Responsibilities

 

The Deputy CRO shall assist the CRO as required during Union Elections, Plebiscites, and Referenda.

The Deputy CRO is responsible for completing any reasonable tasks assigned to them by the CRO.

The Deputy CRO shall be responsible for determining the location and staffing of each poll station during elections. (Virtual)

The Deputy CRO shall serve as a poll supervisor and is responsible for informing all poll clerks of their duties and responsibilities. (Virtual)

If the CRO resigns or is otherwise unable or unwilling to fulfill their duties, the Deputy CRO shall fulfill the duties of the CRO for the remainder of the CRO’s term.

The SRC shall have the power to appoint an alternate Deputy CRO should the Deputy CRO have to assume the duties of the CRO, resign, or be otherwise unable to fulfill the duties of their office.

The Deputy CRO shall hold at least three office hours per week during the campaign and voting periods provided that the office hours do not run concurrently.

The Deputy CRO is responsible for encouraging students to participate in the election process and educating students with respect to Union Elections.

 

Honorarium: $450 per Semester

Deputy Chairperson

Eligibility & Expectations

a) The SRC shall appoint a Deputy Chairperson (the “Deputy Chair”) who shall be responsible for assisting the Chair with respect to the conduct of SRC meetings in accordance with the ASU Constitution, Bylaws, and SRC Procedural Policy;

b) The Deputy Chair shall abide by and maintain the integrity of the ASU Constitution, Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures of the ASU and, as an SRC official, the Deputy Chair shall be governed by the Council Code of Conduct

c) A person is not qualified to be the Deputy Chair if that person:

  • i) Ceases to be an active member of the ASU;
  • ii) Is nominated for an elected position of the SRC;
  • iii) Is an elected or appointed Union official;
  • iv) Holds any other position of employment with the ASU; or
  • v) Does not have a sessional GPA of at least 2.0 at the time of the appointment.

Responsibilities

d) The Deputy Chair shall attend all meetings of Council and shall be the Recording Secretary of the SRC;

e) The Deputy Chair shall prepare detailed minutes of all Council meetings, under the supervision of the Chair, which shall be available no later than five days after meeting, and which will be presented for approval by Council at the next meeting;

f) The Deputy Chair shall assist the Chair in the preparation and distribution of the agenda and related documents for all Council meetings;

g) The Deputy Chair shall review the minutes of each meeting before distribution and shall maintain a permanent file of all minutes, agendas, and related documents;

h) The Deputy Chair shall ensure that electronic versions of all minutes, agendas, and related documents, are available online through the ASU website;

i) The Deputy Chair shall maintain a record of the attendance of all members of the SRC at Council meetings;

j) The Deputy Chair shall act as Chairperson at Council meetings in the Chair’s absence;

k) The Deputy Chair shall perform other duties as are assigned by the Chairperson or by the SRC.

Axe Bar & Grill Food Production Staff

POSITION: Food Production Staff (Axe Bar & Grill / Perkins)

TERM: September 1st 2020 - April 30 2021

RATE OF PAY: $12.55 per hour plus Vacation Pay

DUTIES: Duties include all aspects of food production as it pertains to the flow of food through the kitchen. You will also be involved in the procurement of food supplies and the maintaining of a clean and safe work environment.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session before the start of the academic year plus periodic training seminars throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: Previous food production experience is considered an asset. Must be kitchen savvy and feel at home in a kitchen environment. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in fast-paced environment. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy.

HOURS: Shifts are scheduled depending on school and workload. Expect approximately 5-15 hours per week.

They are responsible for the “flow of food” through the Kitchen which includes the grill line, sandwich prep area, pizza oven, and all other kitchen workstations. The Food Production staff reports to Food & Beverage Manager.

 

2. Specific Duties

a) The Food Production staff is expected to service customer orders including daily specials along with regular menu items following the specific guidelines for portion and quality control;

b) Food Production staff is expected to perform the prep for all daily specials along with regular menu items;

c) Food Production staff will keep kitchen, fridges, freezers, and storeroom areas clean and orderly;

d) Food Production staff is expected to follow established food safety regulations and report any problems directly to the Manager;

e) Food Production staff is expected to be able to operate and clean the dishwasher and all other equipment.

f) Food Production staff is expected to interact with other staff in a professional manner that will promote and enhance the offered services;

g) Any other duties as assigned by the Food & Beverage Manager (Axe Bar and Grill Manager).

h) to follow any health and safety regulations related to Covid-19, including enhance cleaning and sanitization practices;

Service Attendant - Perkins

Employment Opportunity

TERM: September 2020 - April 30 2021

RATE OF PAY: $12.55 per hour plus Vacation Pay

DUTIES: Working as the service representative at Perkins during scheduled shifts; duties include, but are not limited to, receiving customer orders, preparing food and beverage orders, adhering to store opening and closing procedures, handling cash and making deposits, and promoting café and café services to customers, and the maintaining of a clean and safe work environment.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session before the start of the academic year plus periodic training seminars throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: Previous food production experience is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in a faster-paced environment. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy.

HOURS: Shifts are scheduled depending on school and workload. Expect approximately 5-15 hours per week. Mostly mornings and early afternoon shifts throughout the weekdays.

DUTIES: Working as the attendant for the Cajun’s Clothing during scheduled shifts; duties include, but are not limited to, retail sales, adhering to store opening and closing procedures, initiating and completing assigned tasks; handling cash and making deposits, merchandising, stocking, pricing, promoting store and store merchandise to customers, and participating in complete inventory counts twice per year. TRAINING: Consists of mandatory job orientation at commencement of the work term plus periodic training seminars and mandatory staff meetings throughout the year.

PREREQUISITES: THIS IS A STUDENT STAFFED POSITION. Strong customer service, organizational, time management, and communication skills; ability to respond creatively to pressure; unique promotional skills. Previous retail sales experience is considered an asset. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy.

HOURS: Part Time during academic year. Hours are scheduled. Expect approximately 5-15 hours per week.

1. General Responsibility

While on duty work to ensure the efficient functioning of Cajun’s clothing store. The Sales Associate reports to the Cajun’s Manager.

2. Specific Duties

  • to open or close Cajun’s when assigned and service customers, including, but not limited to: sale of clothing, giftware, Grad Rings, and the accurate dissemination of information;
  • to interact with customers of Cajun’s to promote its services and measure customer satisfaction;
  • to handle cash and prepare deposits in a responsible manner;
  • to ensure that Cajun’s is kept clean and orderly, including, but not limited to: vacuuming, dusting, steaming, sweeping, mopping, emptying garbage, and recycling;
  • to record phone messages properly on a regular basis;
  • to report any operational inefficiencies to the Manager;
  • receive and price merchandise;
  • stock shelves and create merchandise displays;
  • straighten, stock, and resize shelves and displays;
  • maintain the stock room in a clean and organized manner, including regularly re-stocking the store with stock room inventory
  • advise the Manager of operational and stationary supply needs within the store.

3. Miscellaneous

  • to promote the services of Cajun’s to the general public;
  • the Sales Associate may, from time to time, be assigned duties other than those listed above.

  • a summary of any problems, which may have occurred, and the steps taken to resolve the situation.

3. Miscellaneous

  • to promote the services of Union Market to the general public;
  • the Sales Attendant may, from time to time, be assigned duties other than those listed above.
