Technician

TERM:                            November 1 2019- April 30 2020

                                        

RATE OF PAY:              $11.75 per hour plus Vacation Pay

 

DUTIES:                         Responsible for the provision of professional technical support requirements for ASU and Students’ Centre events, including setup and takedown of light and sound systems; and assisting with technical projects in the Students’ Centre.

 

TRAINING:                    Consists of mandatory on the job training at commencement of work term.

 

PREREQUISITES:         Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; ability to handle many tasks simultaneously; a working knowledge of basic sound systems; previous DJ experience is an asset.  Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy.

 

HOURS:                          Shifts are scheduled depending on event requirements. Expect approximately 2-10 hours per week.

TECHNICIAN

 

 

  1. General Responsibility

 

Work to ensure the efficient functioning of sound and lighting support for Students’ Centre events in a pleasant and courteous manner.  The Technician reports to the Building Services Manager and the duty Building Manager.

 

 

  1. Specific Duties

 

(a) Responsible for the provision of professional technical support for various ASU and Students’ Centre events within the building;

(b) Be familiar with the following events and Tech setups:

  • PA System (Large and small PA systems)
  • MacKeen Room lighting
  • Axe Lounge Projector and TV's
  • Data projector hookup

(c) Exercise due care and caution when handling and transporting inventory and ensure its safe and proper usage before, during, and after shift;

            (d) Ensure booked technical arrangements are set up and are functioning properly;

(e) Ensure that Technician keys are signed out and returned promptly after use;

(f) Ensure that Technician keys are not given to any unauthorized personnel;

            (g) Return all equipment to its proper place after usage;

(h) Ensure that regular maintenance is completed on all equipment and an inventory list is maintained;

(i) Maintain the Technical Services office in a neat and orderly manner;

(j) Report any equipment malfunctions or problems to the supervisor.

 

 

  1. Miscellaneous

 

            (a) to be familiar with other ASU personnel on duty;

(b) to promote the services of the Technical Services Department to the general public;

(c) to be familiar with ASU policies and procedures as well as the operation of technical equipment and inventory;

(d) Technician may, from time to time, be assigned duties other than those listed above.
