Door Staff- ASU Employment

TERM: September 1st 2019 – April 30 2020
(Occasional summer work available)

RATE OF PAY: $11.75 per hour plus Vacation Pay

DUTIES: Checking IDs at the door of the Axe Bar and Grill or Students’ Centre events; responsible for crowd control, cleaning of the bar, and enforcement of Nova Scotia Liquor Control Act and ASU door policies.

TRAINING: Consists of a mandatory training session before the start of the academic year plus periodic training seminars throughout the year.

Must be available for mandatory paid staff training commencing Wednesday August 28 @ 9:00 am.

PREREQUISITES: Previous door staff experience is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in fast-paced environment. Must comply with the ASU’s Academic Standards Policy. Certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention is considered an asset.

HOURS: Shifts are scheduled depending on school and workload. Expect approximately 5-15 hours per week.

DOOR STAFF

1. General Responsibility

While on duty, the position of Door Staff works to ensure that the Axe Bar and Grill and Students’ Centre bar events provide an enjoyable and safe environment for patrons. Door Staff report to the Manager.

2. Specific Duties

(a) to check ID’s and sign in patrons, refusing admittance to those who may be banned, not 19 years of age, lacking proper ID, overintoxicated, or in violation of the ASU’s Event Admission and Door Policy;
(b) to handle problems in a friendly and courteous manner;
(c) to remove patrons who are overintoxicated or causing a problem;
(d) to coordinate with Safety and Security on walk home, medical emergencies, and other problems;
(e) to help complete the bar and bar areas cleaning lists at the end of the night;
(f) to help with the setup/teardown of Bar Services Events;
(g) to report any problems to the Manager or designate.

3. Miscellaneous

(a) to be familiar with ASU and NS Liquor Regulations;
(b) to help promote the Axe Bar and Grill and Students’ Centre events;
(c) to be familiar with ASU personnel and procedures;
(d) the Door Staff may, from time to time, be assigned duties other than those listed above.
