HOMETOWN: Halifax, Nova Scotia
YEAR OF STUDY: 5th
PROGRAM OF STUDY: I am an Environmental Science student currently completing my Honours research on how science affects policy as well as am a Cooperative Education student.
WHAT I DO: My role as president is to ensure that student opinions, needs, aspirations, and wishes are being met. It is important that I represent students to the best of my ability and am consistently working to improve the life of each Acadia Student.
As President, I sit on Senate (Acadia’s Academic regulating body), Board of Governors (Acadia’s non-Academic related regulating body) which includes chairing the Student Affairs committee, in pursuit of always bringing students’ needs and opinions to the table. As well as internal work within Acadia University, I also participate in the advocacy of students’ rights to Provincial and Federal Government with Students Nova Scotia and The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations.
MY GOALS FOR THE YEAR: Having only one year in term and ideas from thousands of students, I have an incredible opportunity and responsibility to champion the requests of students. There are several areas that students have identified essential to prioritize this year. Firstly, accessibility; from gender neutral infrastructure, cultural inclusion, to advocating for physical accessible infrastructure and accessible learning. Secondly, diversity; from ensuring Black Students’ Association is a secured club within the ASU to increasing diversity in leadership roles by more engagement and communication. Thirdly, sustainability: working towards a Fair Trade campus and ensuring sustainability is a factor in all of our decisions. Increasing active transparency in every decision we make is something the entire Executive Team has stated as a priority.
I am here to serve you, the students. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
