HOMETOWN: Shediac, New Brunswick
YEAR OF STUDY: 5th
PROGRAM OF STUDY: Biology (Cooperative Education & Honours)
WHAT I DO:
My role as VP Academic & External is to act as a resource and an advocate for students and student voices. The academic portion of my position consists of supporting students’ academic experiences at Acadia, through collaboration with the university administration and faculty. I also sit on the university Senate and relevant Senate committees as a student representative. Overall, I am a liaison between the Acadia Students’ Union and the offices of the Vice President Academic, the Registrar, Admissions, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Career Services, the Learning Commons, and the Student Resource Centre. Secondly, the external portion of my position consists of being an Acadia delegate and a voting member within our provincial and federal advocacy organizations, Students Nova Scotia (SNS) and the Canadian Alliance of Students Associations (CASA), respectively. Through these external organizations, I aid in the process of conducting research, creating policy and advocating on behalf of post-secondary students. I am excited to act as a student support and resource to help enhance your academic experience! With that, my door is always open and I can be reached by phone and email as well.
MY GOALS FOR THE YEAR:
This year I hope to be able to foster effective communication between students and my position as VP Academic & External. I will be available to provide support for all students to ensure their academic experience is what they want it to be! I aspire to foster a well-known open-door policy to ensure all students know I am available and feel comfortable seeking support from my office. Additionally, I will continue to strive to maintain strong relationships with Acadia’s external advocacy organizations, while advocating on behalf of our students and student issues.
FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I love the Acadia S.M.I.L.E. program more than cheese and would talk your ear off about how wonderful and influential the program is if you’ll let me!
If you have an interest in anything from policy and advocacy to improving the academic experience at Acadia in general, I would love to hear your ideas! I am here to help all students in any way I can, so please reach out if you ever feel like you are in need for a little extra support within the academic realm or other sectors of your life. I am here to listen and to help!
